国家推行规范文字，要把繁体字的使用限制在一个适当的范围之内，没有特别的需要出版物应以简化字出版。面向公众的出版物，包括书法艺术也应使用简化字。我们应当顺应潮流，不要迁就。海峡两岸加入WTO后，主体在大陆，主体是使用简化字，我们没有必要去迎合。《读书》的刊名，《人民日报》(海外版)原使用繁体字，现在也改为用简体字了。简化字的使用并不是1949年以后发明的。汉字产生后，同一个字就有笔画简繁之分。1935年当时的国民政府就公布过一批简体字。1949年以后的中国政府，为了满足人民大众学习文化的要求，推行简化汉字更加自觉，更加有力。
在实际编辑工作中，繁转简易规范，简转繁易出错。特别是年轻的编辑，接受的是简化字的教育，没学过繁体字，更易出错。因此，最好不使用繁体字出版。目前大陆使用的繁体字同台湾地区使用的繁体字也不相同，如果仅仅是为了同台湾地区交流方便而使用繁体字，似乎不必要。
二、简转繁目前没有规定，也缺乏研究
从目前的出版物看，简转繁实际有两种转法：一种是依照《简化字、繁体字、选用字、异体字对照表》转换，或者说依《新华字典》《辞海》简体、繁体对应转换，如"只"字，可转为："祗"、"祇"或"只"字；另一种是依照传承字转换，即古汉语中使用过的字。1949年以前使用的汉字。1949年以后台、港、澳地区使用的汉字，作繁体字使用。即以《辞源》《中华大字典》中使用的汉字作繁体字用。如《辞源》中"只"字可作语气词，表示仅仅、量词使用。这两种方法各有利弊，但一本书、一套书似应只用一种方法，不管用哪种方法，用哪个字，都要以文通字对为原则。使用第一种方法，往往排斥了笔画少的本字、古字，也易转错。

虽然繁体字在现代社会已很少使用，可是真的对它们一窍不通的话，有时就会闹出一点小笑话。这不，我在学书法时就遇上了。
那是暑假的一天，由于平时我被同学美誉为“草书之星”，再加上老妈检查作业时对我的字“烦”不胜烦，所以，经家庭会议决定，我将去书法班“改造”。
走进教室，我立刻就被墙上的一幅似字非字的“画”吸引住了。这是一幅酷似走之底的“画”，姑且称为画吧，起码我不觉得它称得上字。我很纳闷，大声问：“老师，干嘛把一幅没写完的字挂得这么高？”话音刚落，引出一阵哄堂大笑，好多人指着我叫：“文盲”！再看墙上其它的字，哇！居然没几个是我认识的，这可让一向对语文感觉良好的我颜面扫地啊。老师问我：“你认识繁体字吗？”额...别说认识，连这名字我也是第一次听见呢。见我无语，老师解释：“这叫繁体字，是中华民族的古文字。我们平时使用的是简化字，就是对繁体字的简化，这样写起来更方便。现在台湾地区还使用繁体字。虽然用的人少了，可是，它们仍然代表了中国古文化的精髓。”
写了一上午，我惊奇地发现，练习书法，大部分都是使用繁体字，就连我先前闹笑话的“走之底”，居然是用行书写的繁体字“龙”！第一次遭遇繁体字，竟让我如此尴尬！
